Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program 2025

 The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) is an opportunity for individuals from select developing countries with relevant professional experience and a proven commitment to their countries’ development. This program supports candidates pursuing a master’s degree in development-related fields and aims to nurture skilled professionals who will contribute to their countries’ socio-economic growth upon graduation.

Scholarship Overview

The JJ/WBGSP offers fully funded scholarships for 41 participating master’s programs across 24 universities located in the U.S., Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan. These programs focus on critical development topics such as economic policy management, infrastructure management, and tax policy.

To qualify for the 2025 scholarship, applicants must be unconditionally admitted (excluding financial considerations) to one of the 41 participating master’s programs. Applications will only be accepted from candidates shortlisted by these programs.

Application Process

To align with academic calendars, the application process is divided into two rounds:

  • Application Window 1: January 13 – February 28, 2025 (12:00 noon EST)
  • Application Window 2: March 25 – May 23, 2025 (12:00 noon EST)

Eligible candidates will receive the application link from the participating university after being shortlisted. Prospective applicants should contact their targeted program to verify eligibility and application details.

Scholarship Benefit

The JJ/WBGSP provides comprehensive financial support, including:

  • Full tuition coverage.
  • Monthly living stipends.
  • Round-trip airfare.
  • Health insurance.
  • Travel allowance.
  • Funding for study materials.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, candidates must:

  • Hold citizenship from a World Bank member developing country.
  • Not hold dual citizenship with any developed country.
  • Be in good health.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree obtained at least three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Have a minimum of three years of paid development-related work experience acquired within the past six years. Exceptions apply for candidates from fragile or conflict-affected states.
  • Be admitted unconditionally to one of the JJ/WBGSP participating master’s programs outside their home country.
  • Not be affiliated with the World Bank Group as an employee or close relative.

Note: Eligibility criteria are strictly adhered to, and no exceptions are permitted.

Commitment to Development

Recipients are required to return to their home country after completing their studies to contribute to its development through their acquired expertise.
