Scholarship Description
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Pretoria is now open for applications from academically talented African students facing financial and social barriers. This program supports students who demonstrate leadership potential and a commitment to making a meaningful impact in their communitieS
Eligibility Criteria:
- Citizens of an African country
- Facing significant socio-economic barriers, or are a refugee, internally displaced person (IDP), or a person with a disability
- Not already holding an undergraduate qualification
- First-time university student in 2026
- Must apply to one of the eligible full-time undergraduate programs at UP
- Must apply for UP student accommodation
International applicants must meet Universities South Africa (USAf) requirements (www.usaf.ac.za)
Application Requirements:
Applicants must first apply to the University of Pretoria for admission. Once provisionally accepted, they must submit the following documents as a single PDF to mcfsp@up.ac.za:
- Provisional admission letter from UP (if received before 31 August 2025)
- Final high school results
- Proof of gross income or affidavits for parent(s)/guardian(s)
- Death certificates, divorce decrees, and affidavits (if applicable)
- Court documents for legal guardianship (if applicable)
- Identification documents (applicant and family)
- Proof of sibling enrollment at tertiary institutions
- Refugee ID or Section 24 permit (if applicable)
- Disability documentation (if applicable)
Deadlines:
Apply to the University of Pretoria by 30 June 2025
Ensure all supporting documents are received by UP no later than 31 August 2025
This opportunity is available to students who cannot otherwise afford tertiary education. Applicants holding other bursaries (except UP achievement awards) are not eligible. All information must be accurate and verifiable.
